The Kennebunks: A special place by the sea where history, harmony
and hospitality embody the essence of maritime New England. The area
is characterized by alluring, unspoiled beaches, rocky coastlines,
hundreds of acres of salt-marsh set aside in nature preserves and
historic districts where lovely old sea captains' homes are a tribute
to the shipbuilding era that flourished in the Kennebunks a century
ago. The area's quiet charm has attracted many who seek the solitude,
beauty and quality of life that the Kennebunks have to offer. Easy
access to the Interstate facilitates travel south to Boston in 90
minutes. Portland, Maine is a 30 minute drive north.
Entertainment
Theaters, both professional and amateur, are located nearby. The
Portland Symphony offers one of many opportunities to enjoy music.
Movie theaters, seasonal and year round, are within minutes of the
Kennebunks. Social groups and clubs represent a broad array of interests.
Historical societies
Some of the finest examples of New England architecture are evident
throughout the Kennebunks. Both the Brick Store Museum and the Kennebunkport
Historical Society offer tours and exhibits of local and regional
interest. The Seashore Trolley Museum, a nationally recognized transportation
museum, is located in Kennebunkport. Climate
Maine is a four-season state. Summer temperatures average 70 degrees
Fahrenheit, while winter temperatures average 22 degrees. Snow rarely
falls until mid-December, with average accumulations of 60-90 inches.
A higher snowfall inland is a plus for the region's ski resorts. |
